Once you have made your payment you are returned to our site to complete your order, but none of your details are passed to us. In 2006 Pluto lost its rating as a planet and is now classified as a dwarf planet, we now have only eight classified planets in our Solar System plus three 'dwarf planets' (for details see our Solar Facts pages). The inner four planets starting from the nearest to the Sun are Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars which are known as the 'Rockies' none of these are ringed. The outer four are ringed planets named Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune which are known as the 'Gas Giants', these are the planets where our interests lie.
The mighty Jupiter is the fifth planet from the Sun and is the largest planet in our Solar System, its size will hold the mass of the other seven planets twice over, it would hold our planet Earth 318 times. Jupiter's main ring is approx. 7,000 km wide, it also has two faint rings outside of the main ring. It has four large moons and twelve satellites and is the governing planet for the star sign Sagittarius.
The sixth planet from the Sun and is best known for its spectacular rings, its ring system is enormous with seven main rings, the widest over 169,000 miles, although the rings are so huge they are less than one mile thick. This planet may be seen by the naked eye and amazing views can be seen with a decent pair of binoculars. Saturn is the governing planet for the star sign Capricorn.
The seventh planet from the Sun and has an unfortunate name which is often at the butt end of many jokes whoops! sorry but see what we mean, it's possible some nasty bosses may be nominated for these rings. A completely different ring system from Jupiter and Saturn and reports often differ but most now agree there are 11 rings and several ringlets which also contain at least 21 moons and satellites. Uranus is tipped on its side with the rings being almost vertical. The governing planet for the star sign Aquarius.
The eighth planet from the Sun and the last of the Gas Giants. Another very complex ring system with five named rings and two unnamed, one ring named 'Adams' also has 3 named arcs. The widest ring is just over 4,000 km. Again facts about Neptune vary but at 4.5 billion km from the Sun very little is truly known about this planet it does however have at least thirteen moons and is the governing planet for the star sign Pisces.
